MONDAY March 17th 2007‘It’s a great day for the Irish’... to which we reply ‘It’s a great day for Nottingham’. There is an open invitation to come and take part, to watch, to dance as our parade moves into the Old Market Square. This is a community event led by a committee of volunteers. We are indebted to people in the Irish Community who help to plan this day, to our stewards, our stall sellers, and our entertainers etc who showcase the best of Irish culture. We especially welcome entertainers from other communities who are helping us to build up this celebration of our national Saint’s day into an inclusive cultural event. Cead Mile Fáilte Romhat Go Leir = One hundred thousand welcomes to you all. Old Market Square - Co. Armagh leads the parade starting from Forest Recreation Ground led by the Grand Marshal 2008: Mr. Mike McKeever, Headmaster Trinity School, Aspley, Nottingham.
Assemble 11.00am: parade sets off at 12.00pm to arrive in Old Market Square at 12.45pm approx to be welcomed by Lord Mayor Cllr. Munir and Anna McGillicuddy of the Irish Embassy. - 11.30am - 16.30pm Performances commencing & ending with Philomena Begley , Aidy Quinn and his Band. One of Michael Hannon's daughters is going to read his poem ' Little Box of Shamrock' from the main stage. The programme also includes Nottingham Set Dancers / Glenndarragh Academy of Irish Dance / Traditional Irish Music (Comhaltas) / Selection of marching bands / MC Gerry Molumby.
